Zwory [Cloud Based Online Video Platform]

Leveraging Amazon’s cloud-computing infrastructure and the power of the Django framework, Zwory is a technology proof of concept for an online video platform which includes video uploads, transcoding, and multiple delivery options.

Technologies Leveraged:

The concept behind Zwory is to provide, as a hosted offering, a set of services that could permit anyone to have a powerful, yet simple video platform, and to assembly that platform relying on “cloud” infrastructure.

Transcoding: Being able to take pre-existing video and rapidly encode it for use on the web. Zwory supports a broad array of formats, including Flash Video (FLV), MPEG, AVI, and Quick Time (MOV). The original file is preserved and available for downloading in H.264 and FLV formats, as well as streaming.

Publishing: Offering multiple ways to publish videos, including direct publishing, embedding, and potential integration with Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) for larger scale customers.

User-Generated Content: Zwory could easily be enhanced to enable consumer upload as well as internal editorial video generation. Videos created by end users could be managed in a similar fashion to editorially created videos.

Because Zwory is composed of a series of web services, it provides a high degree of flexibility for integration with broader web-based applications, who may consume one, several, or all of Zwory’s services, depending on their need.

Because Zwory takes advantage of cloud-based computing for its infrastructure, it can be scaled on the basis of demand, without requiring an expensive investment up-front.

Finally, Zwory could also leverage an integrated ad server (OpenX) enabling sites to monetize video content managed by it.
